THE STORY OF THE KAKURU CLAN WHICH DISAPPEARED FROM THE FACE OF HISTORY IN MARAKWET

In the not so distant past in Marakwet land existed a clan known as Kakuru in Marakwet East Sub-County. Yet today, Kakuru clan has been wiped from the screen of history. Do you know why?

Am seated with Augustine Komen, a man from Kamogo Village, the Clan of Hon. Kangogo Bowen. Augustine Komen is making my evening lovely with the tale of of the Kakuru Clan which disappeared from the face of history because of their cruel nature!

The story is told of how the Kakuru Clan was so cruel to their neighbours that each time they were aware that a visitor was coming to their village they would welcome him to sit on a stone-stool that had,out of their cruelty, been pre-heated with fire to make it hard for the visitors to sit on. 

Any time a visitor sat on the pre-heat stone, he would have his bare backside scalded by the hotly heated stone! It would really hurt the visitors that their hosts would mistreat them in such a manner. 

The neighbours of the Kakuru Clan were neither pleased with the cruelty of the Kakuru Clan and  invoked the gods to punish them. 

Soon it was noticed that a Zebra journeyed through the borders of the Kakuru Clan and DISAPPEARED never to be seen again.  To be visited by a Zebra is a bad omen amongst the Marakwet people. 

Need I tell you what happened to the cruel Kakuru Clan after the Zebra visit? They were all wiped from the face of the earth. 

Even today, when you go to areas  around Kamogo Village in Marakwet East, you will not find a soul of a living man from the Kakuru Clan.

The mountain blogger and the able man from the hills, Augustine Komen, will keep on telling you these tales.

I would have kept on telling you more tales, but Kagugo's soul brother, Chesir, is here to weave more tales to me.

OF MARAKWET HIGH SCHOOL AND THE FORTY ONE FIREPLACES

  By Thomas Chemelil Marakwet Secondary School( now St. Peter's Marakwet High School) is definitely one of the old schools that has served the community well producing great men and women.  I stumble on one Mzee Luka Kotut at Wagon Wheel in Eldoret who narrates to me a hilarious tale of Marakwet High School. It must have then been an Inntermediate School. The year is 1966. The characters in the story? The likes of Cheptile, Kotut amonst others.  In total, there were 41 students in the school. 30 from Marakwet and 11 from Keiyo.  The interesting part of the story is that each of the forty one students had his own fireplace where he would cook his own meals! In total there were 41 fireplaces or what Mzee Kotut would funnily call " Kabekeren chole artam oko akong'o". MALALA'S TROUBLED PLAYS AND KENYA'S LONG HISTORY OF CENSORSHIP

However, this is not the first time that Malala has run into trouble with the authorities over his contentious plays. Somewhere around 2012, Malala scripted 'Shackles of Doom,' a narrative that detailed the exploitation of a  marginalized community in whose land  valuable crude oil had been discovered. What follows is a mad rush by an "investor" community to reap from the new-found oil at the expense of the locals. In order to endear themselves to the host community, the "investor" unashamedly marries a local girl  who would act as bridge between him and the community to facilitate the wanton pillage of the community resources. Like 'Echoes of War,' 'Shackles of Doom' raised enough political dust with the authorities taking note....
